CASA GRANDE, AZ - From May 21 through May 27, the City of Casa Grande is proud to participate in National Public Works Week, an opportunity to honor the men and women who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. Held each year in May, National Public Works Week seeks to enhance the prestige of the often-unsung heroes of our society - the professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.
As stated in his mayoral proclamation, "Public Works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizen's everyday lives...and the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems such as water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, and solid waste collection," said Mayor Craig McFarland. "I do hereby urge all citizens to...recognize the contributions which public work officials make every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life." To kick off National Public Works Week, the city has launched the latest installment in its Department Spotlight series, featuring Public Works Director, Kevin Louis. The episode, which highlights the many functions and operations of the city's Public Works Department, can be viewed below or on the city's Youtube channel.

![]() CASA GRANDE, AZ - For the ninth year in a row, the City of Casa Grande is honored to receive the designation as a Playful City USA from national non-profit KaBOOM! Playful City USA honors cities and towns across the country for putting the needs of families first so kids can learn, grow and develop important life skills. These communities are transforming ordinary places into playful spaces and using play as a solution to the challenges facing their residents. Casa Grande joins 258 other communities across the nation in being recognized as a city that makes it as easy as possible for kids to play. In total, these communities feature more than 14,000 safe and engaging playspaces that serve more than four million kids. The City of Casa Grande was able to obtain this designation through its efforts in providing recreation or play opportunities that meet KaBoom's community focused criteria. Specific programs and projects that qualified for this recognition include the city's free Len Colla After School Program, its numerous community events hosted throughout the year at various locations, its partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of the Casa Grande Valley to provide free after school teen activities at the Vista Grande High School, and the updated Carr McNatt Master Plan project that will provide increased recreational opportunities at an existing site. "I'm extremely proud to see Casa Grande continue to receive this important recognition," said Mayor Craig McFarland. "Play is critical for the well-being of our community's children, and it is important for city leaders and residents to continue to create great, safe places for kids to thrive. It is my hope that our residents are as proud of this as I am and will continue to take advantage of all that Casa Grande has to offer."
